Kareena has become the only Indian woman to be featured on the cover of the magazine in its January 2010 issue that hit the stands yesterday. Popstar Beyonce Knowles is the only other woman to have featured on the cover, but that was picked from their international edition.

In the interview, Kareena admits that she never lets her guard down. Strangers are not allowed to get to know her, she says.

However, she was attracted to Saif for all the reasons you might expect. "Saif comes from a very cultured background; he is a man of the world. And he's seen so much of life; he's got his head very firmly on his shoulders. I can connect with this guy. He has a good sense of humour; a charming man with a lot of culture. He always liked me on screen. He said I was someone he always wanted to meet," says the actress.

According to Kareena, her closest friends were fixed in childhood, and the men she has encountered have rarely been brave enough to attempt picking her up. "Maybe I give out a little vibe, like: `Don't come near me, and touch me not.'" Does she think men are intimidated by her? "I have a feeling they are, yes," she says.

The juvenile entry level flirtations aside, Kapoor proved to be one of the sole credible performers in this film.

Her character portrayed trauma solidly enough, and her heartbreakingly excellent performance in the last scene alone justifies the price of admission.

Kareena wore a short black dress for the shoot. She was asked to lie down on a white couch. This picture is very straightforward, and sexy.

Since she was lying down on the couch, there was not much we could do. But she kept turning on the couch and moving her hands. This is one of the two bright pictures that I have shot for the calendar.

Earlier Kareena did not like photoshoot but now, she has started liking them. She puts in a lot of effort and follows instructions.

It took me 20 minutes to shoot this picture and one hour to do the styling and make-up.

Looks like tinseltown's hot jodi -- Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan -- don't like the attention that much as they hurriedly made a run for it.

We spoke to a couple of magazine editors, and asked them to choose their favourite cover face, and what made them so special. Here's what they said.

Favourite Cover: It's tough to pick a favourite. But if I have to pick one, I think our first cover with Kareena Kapoor is very special.

There are a lot of firsts associated with it -- it was the first time we were getting to snap Kareena and Saif together. It was a very exciting and effortless shoot. In fact, on our first day of shoot, it was raining heavily and we were quite stressed out. But Kareena and Saif were super cool.

Another special cover was our anniversary cover with Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif. It was a casting coup of sorts. Nobody had cast them together before and they fit in with our theme very well. They had superb chemistry despite never having worked with each other (Katrina and Hrithik are now working together in Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milengi Dobara).

The madness behind the cover: Stars are always better prepped up. The first step is getting fit and getting the body. Stars focus on the style and look. They know what fashion labels suit them. They know which make up artists they would like to work with. Sonam Kapoor wore her own vintage jacket for one of our shoots and brought in a lot of energy. That shows how involved they are.

Stars vs models: Stylish covers sell. It's not just about stars. As long as they are recognised faces, they have a selling and staying power.
