 Re: Aamir Khan
Aamir Khan Aamir Khan was born on March 14, 1965 to film producer Tahir Hussain and Zeenat. He has two siblings – Faisal Khan and Nikhat. The actor began his scholastic career at St Annes School, Bandra and shifted to Bombay Scottish School when Std. VIII. He completed his Junior College from Narsee Monjee College, Vile Parle, Mumbai. Aamir made his first movie appearance at the age of eight in his uncle Nasir Hussain’s Yaadon Ki Baarat though his career actually started with the film Holi in 1984. He received his first critical and commercial success with the film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988 where he won his first Filmfare Award for the Best Debut Male. He married Reena Dutta on April 18, 1986 and has a son Junaid and daughter Ira from this marriage. They divorced in 2002 and he subsequently tied the knot with Kiran Rao in 2005. Aamir’s extensive career saw him give great performances throughout the '90s in films such as Dil (1990), Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992) and Rangeela (1995). Dharmesh Darshan’s blockbuster Raja Hindustani (1996) earned him his first Filmfare Award for Best Actor after eight previous nominations. The film also became one of the third highest grossing films of the '90s! In 1998, his performance in the movie Earth based on the novel The Ice-Candy Man received rave reviews from Indian and international critics. He produced his first movie Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India (2001). The film went on to become a blockbuster hit and went on to be nominated for the Oscars. That same year he set up his own production house called Aamir Khan Productions Ltd. In 2006 his movie Rang De Basanti went on to become one of the highest grossing films of that year. Taare Zameen Par (2007) is based on the relationship between a father and his dyslexic son. The film has been very well received by the public and has also done very well at the box office. The Government of India has granted a tax exemption for the film. As expected he won his first Filmfare award for best director for Taare Zameen Par. He recently lost the legal custody of his younger brother Faisal to father Tahir Hussain. His brother is believed to be suffering from paranoid schizophrenia. But within a few weeks Tahir Hussain surrendered custody as he claimed he was incapable of looking after Faisal.

 Re: Aamir Khan
An interview with Aamir Khan Bollywood Trade News Network Thursday Dec 27 5:05 PM Delivering good output is Mr. Perfectionist's (Aamir Khan) habit. Actor-Singer-Producer-and now a Director, seriously this level-headed person has left no arena untouched. His contribution towards Indian cinema not only changed the scenario of films and filmmaking but also unfastened the locked doors to enter Oscars and constant effort to showcase the Indian films to compete the international market of films. With his directorial debut, TAARE ZAMEEN PAR, Aamir has again proved he is maestro of Cinema; his perfection gets extended to direction also. In conversation with all-rounder Aamir khan: TZP is your first film as a director; tell us how was the overall experience? The overall experience was good. I enjoyed directing as much as I enjoyed acting. For me work should be enjoying and that keeps me going. Were you scared whether the film will fetch you the equal amount of appreciation as your earlier films did? Yes, I was nervous, like any other new director. You are always surrounded by the anxiety about the kind of response that will be fetched. Appreciation is always acceptable and welcomed with open arms but as a producer I see that my films also have to do economically well. Are you a result-oriented person? For me process is more important, joyful. I like to have my entire concentration on the process right from step 1. It gives me pleasure. Are you planning to continue with direction? Yes obviously, I'll continue with direction. Ideally if I am directing I won't get into acting. I concentrate to put my efforts on one task at a time, I am not a man of multitasking, I enjoy the way I work and follow each step carefully after my past. TZP is simple without any big element to go ahead and market with (apart from you) Yes, it's a very simple film with a simple cast. When I choose any particular film, I look from audience point of view, I observe a lot, what makes them happy or cry or rejoice, their reactions to situations. I rather look on the practical aspect of movie to promote; my ability to clearly communicate with audience in a story format is my strength. You are considered a trendsetter, a visionary, changing scenario of Indian cinema, how do you manage to do different things every time? Also what do want say about current trend of cinema in Bollywood? See, I don't do different things; I try to do it in a different manner. I think every person should follow his/her dream and try and make it possible to create an ability to achieve it backed by its practicality. I think, what has really changed is the audience. They want to see different kind of films. They want variety. Today's audience have matured and are practical, they don't want the same old stuff to be played, that's why films with unusual subject, films with some freshness are being hugely appreciated and accepted. You are always in news for maintaining different looks for your movies, what is the next new look in your upcoming movies? You'll see a bald man in my new film (laughs), the title of the film (remake of Tamil film Gajni) is yet to be finalized. How's the overall response for TZP? In Gujarat? Within industry? The response has really turned out really good. I am overwhelmed by the kind of response I am getting from my fans and the audience in general. The response that I have got for my very first directorial film is like a dream response. It's been appreciated by all ages; from teenagers to youth to parents to oldies to teachers. Well, I was confident about this subject, but was not expecting such a mass response. Within industry almost everyone esteemed and acclaimed my work David Dhawan, Ashutosh Gowariker, Rakesh Roshan and many others prized my efforts through their appreciation. If not actor what you would love to have been? If not actor then I would have loved to be a sportsperson, I was a topper in lawn tennis at state level (played for Maharashtra) and I also love teaching, I would love to have a film school with small number of students who wants to know everything about filmmaking. Sequel to SARFAROSH Yes, I am interested to make a sequel of SARFAROSH as the characters are very much there to get utilized (strong characters). John Mathew Mathan (director of SARFAROSH) is also thinking on the same. We might come out with its sequel, but no fixed plans as yet.

 Re: Aamir Khan
Aamir Khan treads road ahead Aamir Khan has left the grand success of 'TZP' behind and is looking forward to the road ahead exploring new roles in 'Ghajini' and 'Idiots'. He is sure that 'Ghajini' would be one of the biggest hit of 2008.
He is doing all to ensure an ‘Eid-Ul-Fitr’ release for 'Ghajini', the Hindi remake of the South blockbuster. The festival incidentally is likely to fall on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2, 2008. The weekend after that too would be bountiful due to the festival of triumph of good over evil, ‘Dussehra’.
Aamir's 'Ghajini' project hit headlines for reasons aplenty. It was Aamir's six or eight pack abs, his personal gym, his bald look and Asin's Bollywood debut that kept the much-awaited film always in news. After seeing Asin's superb performance in Tamil version of 'Ghajini', Aamir Khan invited her to act as the female lead in its Hindi version.
The shooting for the film started on January 22. The film, directed by A R Murugadoss, stars Tamil actress Asin and 'Nishabd' fame Jiah Khan.
Raju Hirani of 'Munna Bhai' fame has signed Aamir Khan for 'Idiots' 'based on Five Point Someone' and deals with the story of three IIT students. Aamir had acknowledged that post 'Ghajini' Remake, he would work on 'Idiots'. The latest Raju Hirani film would be produced by his mentor Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Our sexy Bebo could be Aamir's girl in 'Idiots'.
Ask him about his dream project and he says it's 'The Mahabharata'. According to him, this is the ultimate we could give to world cinema. But if he would ever attempt the subject, it would take at least 15 years with 5 years just for the research work. Now, this is Aamir Khan, every time serving us a visual delight, which is a rarity these days!

 Re: Aamir Khan
0 n May 13, 2008 at 1:41pm Shahrukh was at Aamir Khan's feet "licking them... begging for attention (once again), as I fed him bis- cuits every now and then". Another controversy? No, just a blog post from Aamir Khan. "Shahrukh is the name of our dog. And before you jump to any further conclusions let me add that I had nothing to do with naming him. In fact Shahrukh is the dog of the caretakers of our house. When I bought this house it came with the caretakers and their dog! Apparently Shahrukh (the actor) was shooting for a commercial in this house a few years ago, and that very day the caretakers bought a pup... and named him Shahrukh. What are the chances of me buying a house, which comes with a dog, called Shahrukh!" the actor writes in his latest blog post. Aamir's friends have levelled accusations that he "bought the house just because of the dog". "I would have to be a serious fan of Shahrukh's to want to do that. Your guess..." writes Aamir while on holiday at Panchgani with his family. After setting off this little bomb, he sits back and enjoys the cool breeze, "jannat ki hawa (breeze from the heavens), as my mother calls it." The hawa is not likely to be so cool in Mannat, SRK's residence. The past week has already seen the star field an attack from Amitabh Bachchan, and the West Bengal sports minister. Aamir has previously taken on SRK. Earlier he had posed the question "How does he feel about being No 2?" and SRK responded that if Aamir thought him good enough to be number 2 then "it was a great compliment to him ... oops! ... to me". A final dig from Aamir - "Well Shahrukh is again begging for my attention ... He is smelling too much, I think he needs a bath. Heel boy, heel."

Date:29/12/2005 Aamir Khan ties the knot
File photo of Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao Mumbai: Bollywood actor Aamir Khan tied the knot with long-time friend Kiran Rao at a simple registered ceremony at his residence in suburban Bandra on Wednesday evening. The ceremony, attended by the actor's family and close friends, did not see the presence of any major stars, except Rani Mukherjee. Although Mr. Khan left his residence couple of times during the day, he refused to speak to the media that had gathered outside. The couple along with the family and friends are expected to leave for Panchgani, about 200 km from here, where they will usher in the New Year with a series of parties, expected to be attended by the film fraternity. The couple met while Ms. Rao was assisting filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker during the making of the film Lagaan. The couple will go to Bangalore after the reception where Kiran's parents will host a reception for them. — PTI

 Re: Aamir Khan
Aamir on Narmada: I won't apologise
rediff Entertainment Bureau May 25, 2006
Aamir Khan addressed a press conference outside his home in Khar, north Mumbai, saying he will not apologise about his comments on the Narmada issue.
"I am saying exactly what the Supreme Court has said. I only asked for rehabilitation of poor farmers. I never spoke against the construction of the dam. I will not apologise for my comments on the issue," he says. Aamir's remarks against the Gujarat government and Chief Minister Narendra Modi evoked violent protests in Gujarat. The state has even decided not to screen his new film, Fanaa, which releases worldwide on Friday. Meanwhile, when Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh was asked to comment on the Gujarat protests against Aamir and his film Fanaa, he said, 'I do not believe in violent means of protests. Everyone has the freedom of expression. If someone says something on a particular subject, that doesn't mean you should start protesting.' Here is a quick take on what Aamir said at the press conference. The Bharatiya Janata Party is opposing the release of Fanaa in Gujarat because you participated in pro-Narmada dam rally. Is that correct? Let BJP do their karam (work). I will do my karam. Every man has a right to do what he or she wants. I will be unhappy because the people of Gujarat will be unable to see Fanaa. BJP has leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley. I hope they understand my viewpoint.
Don't you think Fanaa will lose money because of your statements? People are losing their homes, temples and schools because of the Narmada dam and they are not getting an alternative replacement. I don't think Rs 5 to 7 crores (Rs 50 milllion to Rs70 million)will matter when it comes to their lives and livelihood.
Are you opposed to the construction of the Narmada dam? Let me specify that I am not opposed to Narmada dam construction. All I want is that the people, who have been ousted by the construction of dam, should get alternative accommodation. The BJP wants you to apologise. Will you? I will not apologise. Why should I apologise? I am not saying anything wrong. Even the Supreme Court of India says the same. So will the BJP tell the Supreme Court of India to apologise as well? The BJP is a strong and big party and I am a very small man compared to them. If I am speaking for the poor, why should I apologise? If someone explains to me that I am wrong, then I will surely apologise. The people of Gujarat will not get water if the dam is not constructed. Are you aware of that?
I want the people of Gujarat to get water. I love the people of Gujarat. I want them to have a good quantity of water but there should be justice for the displaced people too. Half of my friends are Gujarati and they, too, are supporting me. You have also talked against the Gujarat Chief MinisterNarendra Modi for his role in post Godhra riots of 2002. I said that during the Gujarat riots. I feel it is sad that innocent people are getting killed in riots. I strongly feel no innocent Hindu, Muslim, Sikh or Christians should get killed in riots. I am also against [US President] George Bush who is killing innocent people in Iraq. I feel all human beings should oppose such people. Those who instigate others in the name of religion are wrong. Period. Do you think you you being targeted because you are a Muslim? I am an Indian first. Some people call god Allah and some call him Bhagwan. If anyone kills a person in the name of religion, it is wrong. This issue is not about religion. It is about poor people who need rehabilitation. I have got the right to my opinion. The BJP is taking a stance and everyone in India can see that what kind of party they are. They cannot tell me to shut my mouth.
Why don't you support the Kashmiri Hindu Panditswho have been displaced from Jammu and Kashmir because of terrorism? Of course, I support the Kashmiri Pandits. I will voice (my feelings) against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. It is unfair to target Kashmiri Pandits just because they are Hindus. I am also againstthe ways terrorists, of attack by bomb blasts as only innocent people get killed. Will you donate money to Narmada dam oustees? Yes. I will give them money torelocate. Does Fanaa's producer Yash Chopra agree with your cause? Everyone in the film industry is with me. In fact, everyone is with me, except the BJP. Will you take back your statement if your film suffers losses? I will stand by my words.
Are you interested in politics? No.I am an ordinary citizen of India. We have a democracy and I feel I have a right to express my opinion. What do you think is the solution to this? I can fight legally. I can also go to the producers' association. Our film talks of heroes fighting against injustice but now I am doing it in real life. Why don't you phone Narendra Modiand tell him to sort out the issue? Why should I phone him? Why should I interfere in his work? Let the people decide who is right and who is wrong. Isn't it true that your relationship with Gujarat has been spoilt? That's not the right way to say it. My relations with the people of Gujarat will be forever. My relations with the political parties of Gujarat has been spoilt. I remember I did the first screening of Lagaan at Bhuj. I participated in the rehabilitation process after the Gujarat earthquake. Even Gujarat's Congress leaders are opposing your stance? I don't know about this. But if it is true, then let them oppose (my stance). Let the people decide who is right and who is wrong. I stand by my words. You are the brand ambassador of American companies like Coca Cola. Author Arundhati Roy, who is part of the Narmada protest, has claimed they are anti-national? I have said this earlier. I am investigating this issue and will give you a definite answer in one or two months.
Do you have any comments on the deadlock between Yashraj Films and the multiplexes. The multiplexes are charging very high rates. They should reduce their prices. I don't believe that Yash Raj is using arm-twisting methods to deal with multiplexes. But this is my personal view. Any message to the country? I want the people of India to see that here is a political party (BJP) that does not believe in democracy. Here is a party that does not believe in the rights of poor people. I believe in democracy and if I believe in a cause. I will support it. Nobody can tell me to keep quiet. Inputs: Onkar Singh | Photograph: Arun Patil

Aamir: 'I am not scared of threats'The Supreme Court has spoken. In an order passed on Monday morning, it has said that theatre owners in Gujarat wanting to screen Fanaa should be granted full police protection if asked for. In response to the order, actor Aamir Khan called a press conference at his family bungalow in Bandra, Mumbai. This is what he had to say... Re: Aamir Khan
Aamir: 'I am not scared of threats'Are you happy with the Supreme Court's order? I am. Now, the BJP and its youth leaders must allow the film to be released in Gujarat. They shouldn't object to its screening. Would you say you have emerged victorious after the ruling? There is no point in beating drums about victory or defeat. The Supreme Court's order says I have the right to speak my mind in a democracy, which is also what the Constitution of India says.

 Re: Aamir Khan
Aamir: 'I am not scared of threats'But isn't it true that theatre owners in Gujarat voluntarily don't want to screen Fanaa until you apologise? I don't feel as if I need to apologise over the Narmada issue. I reiterate, again and again, that it is the Supreme Court of India that has said rehabilitation of the people should be done. I am not against Gujarat or its people. I want the dam to be constructed, but the people who are displaced must be rehabilitated. Will theatre owners of Gujarat tell the Supreme Court to apologise? I will, if I am wrong. But they don't want to release your film... It is wrong to say that. They want to release the film but are scared of vandalism. They are scared that violence will erupt. A month and a half ago, vandals disrupted screenings of Rang De Basanti and the government didn't do anything to stop them. The film was eventually pulled from theatres.

 Re: Aamir Khan
Aamir: 'I am not scared of threats'You are being portrayed as anti-Gujarati... That is wrong. I feel sad hearing such statements. I love Gujaratis very much. Look into my eyes to see if I am being honest or not. My best of friends are Gujaratis. Even my sister's husband, Mahendra Joshi, was. The Film Producers Association said they would take appropriate action if Fanaa wasn't released in Gujarat within a week. No action has been taken so far though. Is support for you weakening? I don't know that. You had better ask them this question. But they have not supported you all the way. I can only quote a dialogue from Rang De Basanti: "Jo kuch ho raha hai woh chup chap saho ya kuch kadam uthao" (Either accept everything quietly, or take steps to remedy it). I am not scared of the threats. What is the worse that can happen? I will lose my life. Don't you feel that you are destroying your career by involving yourself in such issues? Won't producers be apprehensive signing you for future projects? That may be true, but I can't stay quiet. I am doing what I must do.

 Re: Aamir Khan
Aamir: 'I am not scared of threats'The Da Vinci Code has been banned in some states despite the fact that the Censor Board has cleared it. Do you agree with the ban? It shouldn't have been banned after clearance from the Board. It is the responsibility of the government to see that law and order is maintained outside theatres where the film is being screened. BJP MP and former actor Shatrughan Sinha said that you should either be in politics or remain an actor. I don't want to enter politics. He is my senior. I have a right to speak and I have not said anything wrong. I am only saying what the Supreme Court of India is saying. Has this become an ego issue? No, it hasn't. Today, it is me; tomorrow, it will be someone else.

Aamir: 'I am not scared of threats'To you think Fanaa will be released in Gujarat? I don't know. The ball is in the BJP's court. The solution lies with them. If they want the film to release, they will. This controversy has led to almost weekly press conferences from Aamir Khan... This is the last time I am speaking about this issue. I will next speak after 3 months, when the Supreme Court takes up the matter of rehabilitation at the Narmada.
