Uttar Pradesh Gaurav Samman Personal life Abhijeet is married to Sumaati. The couple have two sons. My marriage: Over the past six months, I have not been very happy with my marriage. I’m not getting separated because I don’t want to get married again. Are celebrites doomed to have troubled marriages?
It’s true. There are two kinds of professionals: One group keep themselves busy with whatever work they get, and the other wants to do big assignments and spend the rest of the time at home. Also, I operate from my residence, which saves me from travelling across the city. Do singers feel the same pressures that stars feel? It depends from person to person. In my case, it creates trouble for me. I have got used to it now, and I no longer pay much heed to my wife’s thoughts. At the end of the day, I’m working to keep my children and family happy

 Re: Abhijeet Bhattacharya & Controversies
Abhijeet Bhattacharya refuses to judge Pakistani singer Mussarat in Zee’s ‘Ek Se Badhkar Ek’July 21, 2008 Abhijeet Bhattacharya - Is he IN or is he OUT as judge of Zee’s Ek Se Badhkar Ek?? This question has finally been answered, as things get sorted out between Abhijeet and the channel…Outcome - He is IN!!
Abhijeet Bhattacharya, the judge of Zee’s Ek Se Badhkar Ek who took a stand that he will not judge Mussarat Abbas just because he is from Pakistan. After Mussarat entered the show in wild card entry Abhijeet went to the extend of leaving the show. Alka Yagnik was contacted to join the show as a judge. Later Abhijeet said he will continue to judge the show, and this is the latest news!! Abhijeet simply refused to judge Mussarat on the sets of the show. Before this he had once asked Aneek Dhar not to sing the song blockbuster song “Pehli Nazzar” from Race because it is sung by Pakistani singer Atif Aslam. This is simply ridiculous. This is atleast not expected from someone like him. This is the first time in the history of Indian Television a judge wants to leave a show because of a contestant. Amidst all the buzz making rounds that the singer has been replaced by Alka Yagnik as judge in Ek Se Badhkar Ek, Abhijeet confirms to us, “Yes, I will be continuing as judge in the show. After all, it is my baby; Ahmed and I have taken extra care that the show is clean devoid of vulgarity. So as a judge, I will move on”. When asked whether this means he will now judge Mussarat, he says “I had a talk with the channel authorities and we have come to a mutual decision. As Abhijeet the person, I stand by the ideologies I have even today. But the judge in me will rate Mussarat and the show will go on!!”.
Tarun Mehra, Business Head, Zee TV further confirms this and says, “Yes, we have amicably sorted things out. Abhijeet will be continuing”. When put the same question whether he will now judge Mussarat, Tarun Mehra comes up with a quick reply, “He has to judge him!! As a person, we respect his sentiments, but as a judge he needs to keep the show’s format also in mind!!”. Well, as this controversy dies down, wonder what we have in store for us next in Ek Se Badhkar Ek!!

 Re: Abhijeet Bhattacharya & Controversies
Anti-Pakistani views Abhijeet has expressed outspoken views against allowing Pakistani singers in Bollywood, pointing to the lack of reciprocity from the Pakistani film industry. Together with ghazal singer Jagjit Singh, in 2003 he formally requested the government to ban Pakistani singers. In an interview in 2003, he attacked Pakistani singers Adnan Sami and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. In July 2007, he physically attacked a film-employee Union leader, accusing him of being a "pimp of Pakistani singers". The fracas was related to Abhijeet's alleged non-payment of dues to a lyricist. (Mumbai Mirror July 25, 2007) Abhiijeet has also recently attracted controversy for negative comments on rival singer Bappi Lahiri. The two men are judges on rival TV talent shows in 2007, with Lahiri's show including Pakistani contestants. In 2008, he made fun of Jalwe Sitaroon Ke contestant Aneek Dhar for singing a hit song of the year sung by Pakistani singer Atif Aslam. He stated he will give aslam a zero, but aneek full marks(He gave him 7/10 eventually). Recently, he was ousted from a reality show after he insulted a Pakistani contestant and refused to judge his singing.

 Re: Abhijeet Bhattacharya & Controversies
‘It’s tough to work with Rahman: Abhijeet7 Mar 2009, 0002 hrs IST, SHALINI NAIR |

| Abhijeet Bhattacharya needs no introduction. He’s worked with the best in the industry from R D Burman to A R Rahman. Nowadays he is seen more on TV as a reality show judge. Hyd Times catches up with the singer who is remembered for hits like Chand Taare from Yes Boss and is known as the voice of Shah Rukh Khan.
There are so many untrained and unconventional singers these days. Is it tough to sustain the competition for senior singers like you?
Today everybody is a singer. He doesn’t have to be in sur. Many of the modern day singers are besuras. Ask them to sing live on stage, without a CD player and they can’t do it. And looking at them, I think my standards are quite high and I feel proud. At one point of time there were singers like Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi, Lata Manageshkar and now there are hundreds of singers who don’t have an identity. Every singer sounds the same and sings the same. Now it’s the music equipment that do most of the singing! Earlier, a song meant that it was a concerted effort by not just the music director, lyricist and singer but by the film’s producer, director and other technicians. But now, when I sing, I don’t even know for whom I am singing as in the recording studio most of the times I find only the music director’s assistants. I don’t even know who's the co-singer and then I don’t even realise when the song’s come and gone in the market. Life’s moving very fast and certainly more so in the film industry!
There’s more things happening to singers’ career now and they have the option for getting into reality shows ... Yes, there are greater options now. TV is a bigger medium and reality shows promote the new and genuinely talented. There's always employment in the film industry, but I draw a line on what songs I have to sing.
Among the current music directors who's the toughest to work with?
AR Rehman. I haven’t sung many songs for him. But it’s really tough to work with him. Rahman likes to work in the night. When you are in deep sleep, suddenly his assistants come and knock the door and ask you to sing.
Now that Pak is in news again, your take on Pakistani singers ...
I have many friends and followers in Pakistan but I don’t have a high opinion of Pakistani singers. Our film industry is already bogged down by so many artists who come for employment and then it also has to take the burden of Pakistani artists, which is not fair to Indians. It’s only a one-way process because Indian artists can’t go and perform there. Because they don’t have a platform. Set aside the political difference, both the countries have cultural similarities but then exchange has to be two way.

 Re: Abhijeet Bhattacharya & Controversies
Under fire for their name being involved in the David Headley controversy, filmmaker Mahesh d his family is finding Bhatt and his family is finding opposition from another familiar quarter. In a recent interview, playback singer Abhijit Bhattacharya has said that an enquiry should be ordered against filmmakers Mahesh Bhatt, Mukesh Bhatt and Pooja Bhatt "for importing artistes from Pakistan on a tourist visa and then committing a crime by letting them stay here." "The family is importing artistes from Pakistan with a motive," the singer said. "They have introduced 30 artistes from Pakistan and most of them are untalented. Only two or three of these singers are working in India now. Where are the rest? They have definitely not gone back," he adds. "Pakistani artistes are not given a work permit. I'm also aware that the Bhatts personally go to Delhi to make sure that these artistes get the visa. There has to be some motive behind it," says Abhijit whose comments come at the time when the family is grappling with media queries following their attendance at Moksha Gym instructor Vilas Warak's wedding on Tuesday. It may be recalled that Warak's name had figured, along with Bhatt's son Rahul, in the Headley case. Reacting to Abhijit's allegations, Pooja Bhatt said, "He is saying this because our production companies have never got him to sing in any of our films. The gentleman is going through mental recession."
