The traditional invitation Tcards have toughcomTpetition this wedding season —fromtheir ecousins. From sending conventional hardcopyinvites to hundreds of guests, young couples arenow optingfor electronic invites.
“Fiftyto70per cent of my clients have started asking fore-invites,”saysPraneeta Kochhar,awedding planner.
The reasons vary —from cost-saving and environment consciousness to convenience and desiretobedifferent.
“My clients ask forcards with background music, audio-visual clips of their pictures and evenrecorded invites in their ownvoice,” says wedding stylist Swati PandyaSood.
Designerssay thatwhile a traditional cardcosts anywherebetween Rs 50— Rs 5,000,ane-card, with all its fancy features, incursonly aone time designing cost between Rs 10,000 to 15,000.
And couples can evenupload them on their ‘wedsites’ for posterity. “Who wants the hassle of collecting the addresses of all the relatives and fightingwith the courier companyoverdelays?” asks Ashish Verma, 27,who preferred an e-cardover traditional invites forhis wedding.
Traditional wedding card sellershowever, defend their business. Saurabh Gupta, a dealer,says, “It’s impossible to do away with hardcopy invites. This is tradition.
Some people wear gowns at weddings, but thatdoesn’t mean lehngas areout.”
