Gauri Banerjee, a rare female Sarangi Player of India has come from a musical family. Her father Pandit Kishore Banerjee is a well known Tabla Player of Delhi and mother Mrs. Tandra Banerjee is a Gold Medalist in Sitar from Allahabad. Her elder brother Shiv Shankar Banerjee is also a well known tabla player of Delhi. Her Grand Father Pt. Manik Lal Banerjee was a famous Tabla Player of the sixties. So she is the third generation musician of her family.

Gouri started learning Sarangi at the age of Eight from Pt. Kashi Mishra of Benaras. Later she became the disciple of world renowned "Sarangi Sartaj" Ustad Sabri Khan Saheb of Delhi, under whom she's flourishing as the second female Sarangi Player of India at present.

After successful completion of B.MUS (sangit prabhakar) from Allahabad & B.COM (H) from Delhi University, she is doing masters degree in Sarangi & also studying Chartered Accountancy from Delhi (CA Final Student).

She is a frequent performer from Radio & Television of Delhi. She is also a recipient of scholarship in Sarangi from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. She is an empanelled artist of ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) from the year 2004.

She has already given performances as a Solo Sarangi player in different places of India like Raigarh, Patna, Bokaro, Kolkata, Allahabad, Gwalior, Pune, Ghaziabad, New Delhi etc.

She also enjoys giving Nagma (lehra) & playing Sarangi with Kathak Dance & vocal music. Her favourite ragas are Marubihag, Shree, Madhuvanti, Tori, Multani, Puriya Kalyan, Khamaj, Nat Bhairab, Jhinjhoti etc. Though she has got very good marks in her academic career (88% in I.C.S.E. & 91% in I.S.C.), she has taken Sarangi seriously as a professional career. Currently she is associated with Survarsha Music Academy, New Delhi as a teacher of Sarangi.

Miss Gauri Banerjee's family background starts from her Grandfather Pt. Manik Lal Banerjee who was a reputed musician and a worthy desciple of Ustad Karamatulla Khan Sahab of Calcutta. Gouri Banerjee comes from a musical family which is having a history of three generations musician. She is the third generation musician and the third female sarangi player of India who is giving solo performance of sarangi on the stage all over the country. She started learning sarangi under the tutiladge of Pt. Kashi Mishra of Benaras. She then received sarangi lessons from her mother Mrs. Tandra Banerjee a Gold Medalist in Sitar from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad (B.Mus.). She has taken her training of taal and laykari alongwith calculations of tehais from her illustrious father Pt. Kishore Banerjee, a reputed international musician. Currently she is taking her advanced lessons of sarangi from sarangi samrat Ustad Sabri Khan Sahab of Delhi. She is in regular practice with her elder brother Mr. Shiv Shankar Banerjee, who is a Masters Degree Holder in Tabla from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad, where in had ranked second position in the country. Shiv Shankar is also an A.I.R & TV Artist of Delhi. Gouri Banerjee is not only an A.I.R. artist of Radio & TV but also an empanelled artist from I.C.C.R. (Indian Council for Cultural Relations).

“Gouri Banerjee" started learning sarangi at the age of nine from her mother. Then she started taking lessons of sarangi from Pandit Kashi Mishra of Benaras, till his death. Thereafter, she is continuing her advanced lessons (talim) of sarangi from world renowned Sarangi Sartaj Ustad Sabri Khan Sahab of Delhi. She has tagged a number of prizes in India. She became Yuv Vani Artist at the age of 16 and then she became approved Radio Artist from Music Audition Board, Delhi. She has also received National Scholarship from the Ministry of Human Resources, Govt. of India for a period of two years. She is the third generation musician of her family. Her grandfather Late Pandit Manik Lal Banerjee was a disciple of Late Ustad Keramatullah Khan Sahab of Kolkata.”
