 Going global: "Jai Ho" Fame
A.R. Rahman continues the Jai Ho journey March 04, 2010 Jai-ho, what a feeling A.R. Rahman was around long before Slumdog Millionaire swept us away. But the critically-acclaimed film helped make him an even bigger star -- and apparently, a local concert draw. Chances are his Oscar-winnning hit, Jai Ho, made its way into your collection in some form. (The Pussycat Dolls scored a hit with a poppier take on the tune.) Hear it live when A.R. Rahman's Jai Ho Concert: The Journey Home World Tour hits town July 3 at Toyota Center. (S** kittens not included.) The show promises to "be a theatrical experience that will blend new technologies with powerful dance arrangements and acrobatics. The concert will keep intact the heritage and traditions of India with a new modern presentation." Expects lots of color, dancers and Jai-wowness. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. March 13 at Randall's stores, at toyotacentertix.com or at 866-446-8849. Prices range from $45-$200. Jai Ho earned Rahman two Grammys and two Oscars. Time magazine named him one of 2009's 100 most influential people in the world.

"Jai Ho" Fame The ‘Jai Ho’ girl who feels like Cindrella"thehindu";>R. Sujatha The Hindu Interview with "Jai Ho" fame Tanvi Shah at her residence on Sunday. Photo:S.S. Kumar The visit to Los Angeles was not on the itinerary, says Tanvi Shah, the ‘ Jai Ho’ girl who went up on stage to receive the Grammy Award there on January 31, along with composer A.R.Rahman. She was in New York on personal work when she was called to be in LA. And it was a whirlwind after that. She was nervous, “palpitations and all that. I wondered what to wear. I had to represent India. A cousin helped me choose the outfit. I wore a lot of make-up. It was crazy. The U.S. focusses a lot on the way you present yourself,” says the young singer, who got back recently. The reality that she has won a Grammy is yet to sink in. “I feel like Cindrella.” Her mother has placed several photos of her at the function in their living room. “Winning the Grammy is the ultimate recognition for any musician,” she says, cherishing every moment. The team had barely settled at their table for the awards function when the nominations in their category were announced. And almost immediately the winner was announced. “That’s how Sir (Rahman) came up with the expression ‘It’s insane’. We were running to get to the stage,” she recalls. The high school opera bands nominated for the award were impressive especially as they performed on stage though they did not win awards. “When you perform in front of the nominees you learn that the industry appreciates you.” However, there are some people she missed there: Sound engineer H. Sridhar a “super support and guide” who passed away over a year ago, and A.R. Rahman’s conductor Murthy “a taskmaster”, who couldn’t make it to the grand event. After winning the award, she called her mother in Chennai, waking her up at the unearthly hour of 4 in the morning. She also messaged Augustine Paul, under whom she has been training since 2003.

| Chennai girl takes the Grammy Award | | By Moviebuzz Saturday, 13 February , 2010 |
The Chennai based Tanvi Shah, a popular playback singer became the first women from India to win the Grammy Awards for her Jai Ho.... She shares this award along with AR Rahman and poet and lyric writer Gulzar. Tanvi wrote the Spanish lyrics which were a part of the song and was also one of the singers who rendered it. She has a great voice and can sing in Arabic, Latin, and Spanish and sings a wide range of music with her band, Zahrra. Remember the first song she sang first was Fanaa… under Rahman for Mani Ratnam’s Yuva, which became an anthem in clubs. She has a running collaboration with AR Rahman and has sung a number of songs for him like Papu Can’t dance… from Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na and popular numbers from Rang De Basanti, Jillunu Oru Kadhal, Slumdog Millionaire , Delhi 6 etc

A. R. Rahman’s Chicago gig tickets sell for $1,050 eachPosted: Wednesday, Mar 17, 2010 at 1147 hrs Nevada
Some of the tickets for Oscar winner A.R. Rahman’s Chicago (USA) June 18 “Jai Ho Concert” are now selling for 1,050 dollars per person on his official website. This “Jai Ho Circle” ticket includes: no waiting in line - express entry, separate entrance on green carpet, and pre-show service of non-alcoholic beverages and snacks. The lowest price ticket available (for Section 206) for this Concert costs 54.50 dollars. The concert will be held in Sears Center and there is a limit of eight tickets per order. Acclaimed Indo-American statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, urged Rahman to lower the price of the bottom ticket to 20 dollars so that all his fans could enjoy his Concert in these times of recession. Zed, who is chairperson of Indo-American Leadership Confederation, however, commended Rahman for taking the Indian music to new heights and bringing respect and international recognition to Indian film music.

 Going global: "Jai Ho" Fame
Life's a long song T. KRITHIKA REDDY Going global: Tanvi Shah. Why is the ‘Jai Ho' girl Tanvi Shah upbeat? Well, who wouldn't after performing with A. R. Rahman at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert at Oslo? “Dazed and a tad tired,” smiles Tanvi Shah. The juggernaut whose musical journey steam-rolled after “Slumdog Millionaire”, hasn't slept for two days. But she's not complaining. Just back in Chennai after crossing a new milestone at Oslo, where she performed with global music sensation A. R. Rahman, at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, the young singer doesn't mind battling droopy eyelids to share her experiences. Over to the “Jai Ho!” girl: Concert Call: The opportunity to perform at the Nobel Peace Prize concert came as a surprise. When I got the mail from Rahman's studio, I thought it was just another show. Didn't think it was for the Nobel concert. Right from the time we landed at Oslo, we were treated like royalty. We were put up at the Radisson, a couple of blocks away from the venue. Everything was so well-organised. People were super punctual. Global platform: I was overwhelmed to stand on the same stage as music greats Herbie Hancock, Barry Manilow, Rahman, Colbie Caillat, India Arie, Robyn and Jamiroquai. Anne Hathaway and Denzel Washington too were there. It was interesting to see how different musicians work and perform. Even the rehearsals were meticulously planned. Right from the musicians to the sound engineers and the back stage personnel, everyone worked with such precision. Though it was a live concert, everything sounded like it was playing off a CD — such was the perfection. Jai ho - Again! We performed “Jai Ho!”, though a slightly edited version. The Norwegian Philharmonic Orchestra was awesome. It gave me a high when they played our song. I got goose-bumps! I had to be extremely alert since it was a live performance. I constantly looked at Rahman for cues. You can't afford to make mistakes. In sync with the song, the energy levels were high. People clapped and danced in the lobby. Dress me up: After a rehearsal on the eve of the concert, we had a costume trial session. With a Man Friday and a fantastic make-up artist hovering around, I felt pampered like a princess! There were people to even fix our dresses and help out with any alteration, trimming or stitching. Indian touch: When I zeroed in on design ace Chaitanya Rao for my entire wardrobe (the concert, after party and dinner clothes), I told him the creations needed to have that inimitable Indian touch. With his keen eye for detail and subtle sense of style, he designed stunning gowns for me. People there were simply floored by them. I used some of the jewellery I designed — earrings and armlet. And yes, I wore my lucky watch. Learning curve: Life has changed after “Slumdog”. But it's better to adapt, right? Success is about waking up, looking forward to more work and fresh challenges. I have a long way to go. Every opportunity is a learning curve. There are sleepless nights, but my singing and designing commitments keep me going. I think you have to remain positive at all times. Coming up: I've just completed some singing assignments for Hindi and Tamil films. I'm working on three other international projects. Will divulge the details soon. The track I did with Snoop Dogg did push my career to another level. It was being downloaded on Twitter and the digital media. On the design front, I've begun work on my Spring line of jewellery. Different notes: What the West likes about Indian music is the different instruments we use. Each has a distinct tonal quality and lends itself well to aural experiments. They are also amazed at the fact that we remember entire pieces without the score! Out there, everything is done with the sheet. Versatile voice: As a singer, it's important for me to be open to vocal experiments. For the Telugu song “Power Star”, I had to think a “mix of Lisa Gerrard, Beyonce and Shakira!” (Chuckles) I'm glad the song was a hit. Recently Yuvan Shankar Raja wanted me to “sound Gothic” for a song. The whirl: I love the travel part. I get to see new places, meet interesting people and eat different types of food. I miss my rasam rice though!

Caitlin Kinney & Jason Glover Dance Bollywood 'Jai Ho' Slumdog Millionaire SYTYCD.........!!June 10, 2009 By: Jotworks Source: http://www.associatedcontent.com/ Caitlin & Jason in the Final. It is Written, Isn't It? Season 5 of So You Think You Can Dance has truly outstanding Top 20 Dancers this year and just about all are on judge Mary Murphy's hot tamale train. Almost any one of them could become America's Favorite Dancer 2009. Tonight the ten male dancers were paired off with the ten female dancers, forming the Top Ten Couples. And what performances they gave. Let's start with the sixth couple to perform on live television tonight!— Caitlin Kinney & Jason Glover sizzled as they danced Bollywood style to 'Jai Ho' from the Academy-Award-winning film Slumdog Millionaire, choreographed by Nakul Dev—new to SYTYCD as of last season. The colorful costuming was stunning. The dancing was literally outstanding. I've never been worried about Caitlin Kinney. She is an acrobat as well as a dancer. The handstand that she did and held in this number as she moved her legs into configurations reminiscent of the carved women in Kama Sutra poses with men that populate the erotic temples of India was breathtaking—all the while maintaining her balance. Caitlin and Jason both exploded with the joy that permeates Bollywood dance. Their dancing was exuberant, very sexy, technically brilliant, beautiful, zany, fun, and exciting to watch! Need I say that the judges loved everything about this performance. Adam shouted, "You guys rock!" Mary screamed out she was glad that 'Bollywood has come to Hollywood!'
