Mithoon replaces Himesh Reshammiya for 'Train'
By Joginder Tuteja,  October 14, 2006

21 year old Mithoon has replaced Himesh Reshammiya as a sole composer for Raksha Mistry – Hasnain Hyderabadwala film 'Train'. Produced by 'Aksar' producers Shyam and Narendra Bajaj, the film stars Emraan Hashmi in the lead along with Geeta Basra and India's entry for Miss World 2005 – Sayali Bhagat.

Over to Raksha Mistry to know what exactly transpired? "It's hardly controversial dear", she says sans any tone of remorse, "Himesh was trying his level best to arrive at the film's music but he has been keeping extremely busy and has just been out of his over commitments. His coming days are extremely hectic too with so many things happening in his life. He is coming as a hero in a film which is keeping him quite tied up."

Hasn't that resulted in her movie suffering, especially with more than 50% of the film being shot? "But then it won't be fair on our part too to make him complete his work in quick time if we all are working in strict timelines", she defends.

"This is when we thought of Mithoon, whose songs we heard in 'Bas Ek Pal'. 'Tere Bin' has been an unbelievable composition and we had been hearing great things about him even before the album's release. He had worked with Mukesh Bhatt earlier for 'Zeher' and 'Kalyug' and Bhatt saab was clear in saying that if you want something new in your film, remember that Mithoon is just round the corner. We always remembered that and hence offered the film to Mithoon as soon as we realized that Himesh won't be able to accommodate the project", she explains.

But what happens to the ever successful Emraan-Reshammiya 'jodi'? "That's true, we do regret not having the superhit team of 'Aksar' together [Bajajs, Hashmi and Reshammiya], but we are hoping that we are able to do that some other time", she says. "See, let's not really accuse Himesh here since he hadn't signed the film in the first place. Yes, it was a verbal commitment and that too coming from the fact that he had worked with almost all Bajaj films in last 5-6 years and hence out of goodwill, it was expected that he would be a part of 'Train' too. But then in this case, poor chap is genuinely very busy."

"Good part is that it was only 20 odd days back when Mithoon was intimated about the project and though he is concentrating hard to arrive at the soundtrack, he has given us two songs already that were so crucial for the Bangkok shoot. While one song is for the film's climax, another is a part of the background score", she says gleefully while shifting topic to Mithoon.

And has Mithoon lived up the expectations? "Oh, very much. We really love his work and it is heartening to see that the young boy is so focused. He has so much in him to be explored. We have 6 songs in the film and for the remaining 4 he has understood the situation and would give them to us once we return from Bangkok. He is truly in swing of things already!", she says excitedly as she lauds the boy.

Now since Mithoon has come in place of Reshammiya, how different would the songs sound? "See, we loved the songs in 'Woh Lamhe'. It had one of those emotional soundtracks that haunts you for long. For a film like 'Train' too we wanted songs belonging to a similar class and feel. Well, even if Himesh would have done the score, we would have asked him to create something unusual, something different from what we have heard of him in last 1 year or so. There wasn't a place for any 'jhichaak' score that he is so famous for. In fact even tough the team would have been same as 'Aksar', we were not looking at a score like that with only one club number. Remaining tracks in the film are meant to be more melodious. Something which is Sufi, something which is Oriental since the film has a substantial portion in Bangkok, something that comes across as world music! We are sure Mithoon would give us all what we want", she explains in a single breath.

With an 'emotional' subject like 'Train', who is the person behind all the writing? "Sayeed Quadri", pat comes the reply, "He is such a darling? You won't believe me but he is so very cheerful, humorous and jolly in real life. Why do I say that? Because if one looks at his writing, it has so much of depth with most of it being sheer poetry about love, emotions and relationships."

So how is the film shaping up? "As I said, we are already through with more than 50% of the shoot and leave for Bangkok tonight. We would be back by end of November and after about a couple of days shooting in Mumbai for the climax, the film would be complete. While Emraan is already a seasoned performer now, Geeta has definitely improved further in her second film. Sayali Bhagat is a sweetheart too and has a meaty role that would get her noticed. About the film, if you see a title like 'Train', it conveys a lot of things. It says that if unfortunately some things get screwed up in your life, you may tend to fall off the tracks. But later becomes even more difficult to get back on the 'patri', howsoever harder you may try", she says before signing off.

Still from TrainMusic director Mithoon is fast climbing the ladder of success. The young music composer who made his debut just last year with Onir's Bas Ek Pal has already bagged the Stardust award for the film's music. He again composed chart toppers with Anwar. Though the film didn't do well at the Box office, the music remained on the top of the charts for weeks.

And now, Mithoon's next film is Emraan Hashmi
starrer The Train The interesting part of this album however is that Mithoon will be making his singing debut with this film. He has sung three songs in the album - 'Woh Ajnabee', 'Mausam' and a second version 'Mausam'. Music directors like A R Rahman, Himesh Reshammiya and Vishal Dadlani have been quite successful as singers, so it'll be interesting to see what Mithoon has to offer.

The Train stars Emraan Hashmi, Geeta Basra and Sayali Bhagat. The film is directed by Raksha Mistry and Hasnain S Hyderabadwala and is produced by Narendra Bajaj and Shyam Bajaj.

Mithoon, Atif reunite to create Doori
[]
By: Joginder Tuteja, IndiaFM
Tuesday, December 12, 2006

AtifAfter making entire Indian sub-continent go crazy with Tere Bin [Bas Ek Pal], composer Mithoon and singer Atif are ready to recreate their feat in an upcoming album named Doori.

So can we hope that the magic would be recreated once again? "I hope so", says the modest composer who is barely 21 years old. "It is a guest composition by me in the album which should be releasing in the third week of December."

Guest composition? Wasn't he supposed to make a complete album with Atif? "That's right, that was the plan", he says, "but due to difference in bilateral ties between the two countries, there have been some issues with Atif getting a visa and hence that album would be coming only in August next year."

What should one expect from Doori then? "The guest composition of mine that features in the album is basically the one that I had composed for TIPS earlier along with 'Tere Bin' long back. While Tere Bin was chosen for Bas Ek Pal, the other number is now being promoted for Doori as a new single", he says excitedly.

Is he nervous about the reception the song would get with a baggage of Tere Bin behind him? "One is bound to be nervous but then I am excited too since I am sure the song would be promoted well and music lover will lap it up with glee. The song is especially close to my heart since it is written by Sayeed Quadri saab who was also responsible for Tere Bin, he says before signing off.

Meet Mithoon Sharma, the singer-composer who gave the Indian youth a lot to cheer about with 'Woh Lamhe' from ZEHER and 'Maula Mere Maula' from ANWAR is all set to be back on the scene with his new album. 'Tuhi Mere Rab Ki Tarha Hai' under Bhushan Kumar's banner. Mithoon has been working on the album since a year and has gone all the way to the United Kingdom to

work on the project. Mithoon preferably works with Sayeed Quadri and this time, too, he has roped in the veteran lyricist to pen his songs. 'Tuhi Mere Rab Ki Tarha Hai' is Mithoon's debut non-film album and obviously he has lot of hopes with it!

Mithoon, your first non filmy album 'Tu Hi Mere Rab Ki Tarah Hai' is going to release on January 30th by T-Series. Tell us something about the album.

This new album is very special to me. It is a gift from GOD. I didn't sign any film while I was working on this album since I wanted to be in my own space having no other commitments. Every song is just me, or rather reflecting me. Working on this album has been quite an introspective experience. Since I was trying to know more about the person inside me and bring it out in the songs.

What is the difference between working on a movie and an album?

Working on a film is quite different where as a composer I would work to help the director communicate his story to the audience. Obviously in my own interpretative way. However an album is just the composer's personal views and thoughts reflected in his music.

What does music mean to you?

I believe music is GOD's gift. I thank the LORD for his mercy and grace. For he made me a musician and he is the very source of all my creativity. It is the most treasured aspect of my life.

You signed a deal with T-series. Is it true? What made u to sign the deal?

I have signed a deal with T-series and they have produced this new album of mine. I have enjoyed working with them because I had my space while working, they believed in my vision as a composer. I am looking forward to do some good work with them.

You started your career as a music director in film ZEHER and followed up in ANWAR, BAS EK PAL and so on. How you enjoy your career as a composer?

I have enjoyed my career so far as a film composer. I had decided to be one at the age of 16. I enjoy story telling and every aspect of it and it is very satisfying to know that people have such a bond with my music which has released so far.

Is it true you replaced Himesh Reshamiya in for composing the soundtrack for the movie AGGAR? If true, how was your reaction?

I had no idea that any other composer was supposed to do the music for my film AGGAR. I was approached to do the film and I went ahead. I learnt about this later and don't have much to say about. It's cool!

You made your singing debut with THE TRAIN: SOME LINES SHOULD NEVER BE CROSSED. Songs 'Woh Ajnabee' and 'Mausam' from the film are still a rage. Suddenly why you switched from composing to singing?

My singing wasn't planned intentionally. I just sung a rough track of 'Woh Ajnabee' from THE TRAIN for the shoot. Everybody liked it a lot and asked me to retain my voice. I was hesitant initially but decided in favour of it when my friend and leading mix engineer Eric Pillai asked me to go ahead.

Now, Mithoon is a composer and a singer. Are you comfortable with your dual career? Which one you enjoy most?

I won't call it as a dual profession. Basically I am an expressionist. Every composer does sing. Sometimes it's a little dim. I decided to bring it forth now.

Why did you adapt a career in Music, is there any particular reason?

GOD chose me to do music. He guided me right from the beginning and literally told me what to do when. It is my practical experience. That is how I could start at a relatively early age. My family has a history of musicians and that is why I had that attraction towards it.

Tell us about your music lesson? Who is your inspiration?

My inspiration is my father (Mr. Naresh Sharma) who has composed music for films for the last 30 years. I am his fan like so many people around the world. He has been a rock solid guide for me. I play the piano and keyboards and write my own arrangements. I trained on the piano under Sir Tony Pinto (India's leading Jazz pianist) and was introduced to the keyboards by Mr Rajiv Shah.

Which singer and composer do you like most?

I admire Miles Davis, Quincy Jones, Hans Zimmer, Madan Mohan, Sir Pyarelalji, Ilaiyaraja, Amar Haldipur, M. M. Kreem and A. R. Rahman.

What are your favorite songs?

My favourite songs would be 'Na hum bewafa', 'Lag ja Gale' by Madan Mohan. 'Tere Bina zindagi' se by R D Burman. 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram' by Laxmikant Pyarelal. 'Kehna hi kya' and 'Chupke se' by AR Rahman.

You also worked for an international movie, a Malaysian film. How was the experience?

Yes I have worked on a Malaysian movie called DIVA for which I composed five songs and wrote the background score as well. It was an amazing experience working with renowned vocalist Ning Baizura.

After 10 years down the line where we can see Mithoon - the composer and singer?

10 years or 50 years later; wherever I am, I will always be a musician. I will always seek to express myself more and more sincerely. It is necessary to listen to the person inside us. Because he expresses nothing but the truth.
