Rajrupa Sen
Born in 1982 Rajrupa Sen started taking Sarode lessons at the age of five. Over the years she learnt the nuances of Indian classical music from the renowned teachers of the Ustd. Md. Ameer Khan School of Instrumental Music. She was especially groomed to a musician with the affectionate and intensive musical guidance of
Shri Siddhartha Roychaudhury [a student of Pt. Radhika Mohan Maitra and Ustd. Saukat Ali Khan]. She also learnt with Sri Joydeep Ghosh and for a while with Late Ajay Sinha Roy. Currently she is taking training on advanced study of music making and expressions from the eminent sitar maestro Prof. Sanjoy Bandopadhyay.
Rajrupa performed in many well-known music festivals like the periodical program of Dover Lane Music Conference, Kolkata; EZCC’s Pratibha Utsav, Kolkata and others. She performed at the 15th North American Bengali Conference in New York [USA] in 1995 and she was the youngest musician.
Rajrupa’s talent in sarode playing were recognized through many awards. She got the first position at the nationwide music competition organized by the All India Radio [national radio channel]. She was also awarded first prizes at the Dover Lane Music Competition, Baba Allauddin Khan Memorial Music Competition, Sutanati Parishad Music Competition. ITC Sangeet Research Academy gave her ‘Promising Artist Award’. She also received senior scholarship from the Department of Culture, Government of India, New Delhi for pursuing advanced studies in music.
Now she is near the completion of graduate program in Sarode at the Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. She is pursuing with her research project on ‘Analysis of Music by Satyajit Ray in his films’.
