 Re: Rani Mukherjee...
Rani Mukerji Rani Mukerji (Bengali রাণী মুখার্জী, Hindi: रानी मुखर्जी) born on March 21, 1978, is a six-time Filmfare Award-winning Indian film actress who appears in Bollywood films. Making her acting debut with Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat (1996), Mukerji had her first commercial success with Karan Johar's romance Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), her biggest commercial success so far, and won a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her performance. She later starred in many films, most of which fared below expectations. She returned her success with Saathiya (2002), which was commercially and critically successful. In 2004, her performances in the hit Hum Tum and the critically acclaimed Yuva earned her the Best Actress and the Best Supporting Actress awards at the Filmfare, making her the first actress to win two major awards in the same year, a feat she accomplished at many other award ceremonies. She received unanimous praise for her role as a deaf-blind girl in the film Black (2005), as well as many awards for her memorable performance. She has been part of several commercially successful films and has delivered a myriad of critically acclaimed performances, establishing herself as one of the most successful actresses in Bollywood Career
Early workWhile in school at the age of 14, Mukerji did a cameo role in her father's Bengali film Biyar Phool (1992). In 1996 she played the protagonist of Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat (1996). When the film was unsuccessful at the box office, Mukerji returned to college to complete her education.
BreakthroughMukerji's first release in 1998 was Ghulam opposite Aamir Khan, which did very well at the box office. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) came next, starring Shahrukh Khan and Kajol. The movie was a blockbuster, and for her role in it she received her first Filmfare Award in the Best Supporting Actress category. After this she signed on several projects. Unfortunately, most of the movies did not do well at the box office. However, Badal was one of the highest grossing films of 2000. The year also had her in the lead role of Mujhse Dosti Karoge! (2002) opposite Hrithik Roshan which was her first film with India's biggest production house: Yash Raj Films. Although, the movie did not do well in India, it generated great business overseas, especially in the United Kingdom. Mukerji's next release was Saathiya where she played a medical student who deals with the tensions and discontent of married life. The movie was amongst the top five grossing movies of the year. The film was critically appreciated. Success In 2003, her movie Chalte Chalte opposite Shah Rukh Khan was a hit. She received various nominations in the "Best Actress" category at all award ceremonies. In 2004, Mukerji's performance in Yuva was critically acclaimed, and won her the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award; the movie did not do well at the box office. Her next film was Hum Tum, which was commercially successful and also won her the Filmfare Best Actress Award that year. Her last film that year, Yash Chopra's Veer-Zaara, was the top grossing movie of the year. Mukerji's performance as a Pakistani lawyer in the love saga was critically acclaimed and earned her several awards. In 2005, Mukerji starred in four high-profile films: Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black, Shaad Ali's Bunty Aur Babli, Amol Palekar's Paheli and Ketan Mehta's The Rising. Mukerji received critical acclaim for her performance in Black for which she collected many trophies in the category of "Best Actress" at various award ceremonies. When Bhansali first came to Mukerji with the offer, she turned it down. Mukerji stated that she was not confident enough to play such a role as she had no knowledge on the deaf and blind. Once the director put faith in her, she agreed to do it and intensely studied sign language with professionals. To prepare for her role in Black, she had to go through six to seven months of training at the Helen Keller Institute in Mumbai. Her next release, Bunty Aur Babli, surfaced as one of the biggest hits of the year, simultaneously becoming her fourth successive hit. Mukerji was offered the lead role in Hollywood film, The Namesake but owing to clashing dates with Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, she couldn't commit to Mira Nair's project. Mukerji had two releases in 2006. The first was Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, the film opened to mixed reviews but emerged as the most successful movie ever overseas. Mukerji's next release was B.R. Chopra's Baabul. An unprecedented Rs. 4 crore was paid to Mukerji for her role in the movie. Although much hyped, the movie did not do well at the box office in India but proved to be a hit overseas. Mukerji's first release of 2007 was Ta Ra Rum Pum where she played a mother for the first time on celluloid. The movie was a semi-hit at the box office. In recent times, Mukerji is collaborating with her brother to set up a Television studio.

 Re: Rani Mukherjee...
Rani has no man in her life now!!! | by Subhash K Jha
A report in a section of over-imaginative press suggests that Rani is quitting movies after Laga Chunri Mein Daag to get married.
Laughs a source very close to Rani, "The fact is, Rani has signed a new film and is already shooting for it. The film is Kunal Kohli's untitled venture which brings the Hum Tum pair Saif and Rani together again.
Rani has been shooting for the last two weeks and is totally immersed in the project. She has neither the time nor the inclination to get married or to issue periodical denials about the spurt of lies that keep appearing in the tabloids about her."
Continues the source, "The truth is, Rani is already shooting Kunal's film and is on the verge of signing a couple of more projects.
After Laga Chunri Mein Daag where she has one of the toughest author-backed roles of her career as a Brahmin girl who compromises with her morals to support her family, Rani plays an old-fashioned golden-hearted prostitute in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Sawariya."
According Sanjay Bhansali, Rani's turn as the golden-hearted tart is so ebullient and enchanting, Rani is likely to prove the scene-stealer of the show.
As for marriage, Rani has no man in her life right now.
"Rani is too much into her work to think about marriage. She's also getting her two new homes ready and will be moving in soon.
One of those places has wrongly been perceived as her love nest. It's strictly an office to meet producers, trade people and journalists. With her family home now filled with the pitter-patter of her niece's feet, Rani didn't want to bring her work into her home."
As for Kunal Kohli's film, Rani will be joined by her co-star soon.
Says Saif. "I'm currently shooting for Yashraj's Tashan. Rani has already started shooting for Kunal's film. I join them in Novemeber."
Rani quit? Not quite.

 Re: Rani Mukherjee...
Rani Mukherjee engagement denied | By Monica Chadha BBC News, Mumbai |
Rani Mukherjee is one of Bollywood's top actresses | One of Bollywood's biggest production firms, Yashraj Films has denied reports that top actress Rani Mukherjee is engaged to the company chairman's son. A company spokesperson said reports that Mukherjee was engaged to top director and producer Aditya Chopra were "all rubbish". The engagement rumours first appeared on local media channels on Tuesday. Reports said the couple and their parents met on Monday evening and held a small private ceremony. Neither Mukherjee, nor Chopra, have made any statement on the issue. Their families, too, are tight-lipped |
Much speculation While a marriage would be a first for Rani Mukherjee, Aditya Chopra has been married before and is presently in the process of getting a divorce from his first wife, Payal - an interior designer. Media reports held that Aditya Chopra's parents were not happy with his reported relationship with Mukherjee, as Payal was chosen by them and they are still very close to her. Rani Mukherjee's relationship with Chopra has been a subject of much speculation in the media in the past, but neither of the two has ever spoken about it. Black won several awards in India (Pic courtesy: Yash Raj Films) |
Rani Mukherjee is one of Bollywood's top actresses with various hits to her credit, including the critically acclaimed film Black. Her portrayal of a deaf-blind girl, a character based on Helen Keller, won her lots of accolades and Indian film awards. Black was also selected as one of the top films of 2005 in a listing by American Time magazine. Aditya Chopra is presently considered one of the top producers in Bollywood. Along with his father, director Yash Chopra, he has made Yashraj Films one of the top production houses in India, delivering hits almost every year. His directorial debut, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (The Braveheart Will Take The Bride Away) was a super-hit and entered the history books in 2005 for being the only Bollywood film that ran for 500 weeks continuously in a cinema in Mumbai.

 Re: Rani Mukherjee...

Queen of hearts MINI ANTHIKAD-CHHIBBER | The Rani Mukherjee wave continues to gather adoring fans and filmmakers as the darling of the silver screen is all set to conquer yet another peak with Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, which opens today |
PINT-SIZED POWERHOUSE Rani Mukherjee has essayed every kind of role — traditional or trendy, mum of two or a footloose singleton She is the personification of the pint-size powerhouse. From the time Rani Mukherjee naughtily nibbled on Aamir Khan’s ear in “Ghulam” and sweeping Shah Rukh Khan and the nation off their collective feet in “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai ” to her recent all grown up avatar as the scarlet woman in Karan Johar’s paean to adultery “Kabhie Alvida na Kehna”, she has been the cynosure of all eyes. And now excitement has reached fever pitch with Pradeep Sarkar’s “Laaga Chunari Mein Daag” where she plays Badki/Natasha. Sounding tired, Rani gamely says:“The film as you know is the journey of a woman from Benares to Mumbai. It is the story of a family and an incident, which causes my character to make certain choices. The basic premise of the film is the pressures a girl in India goes through if she is the first born. There is the constant angst to prove to herself, the family and society that she can be the son.” It is this angst that drives the character to take up the world’s oldest profession but Rani does not fear censure from the ever vigilant moral police. “I don’t think there would be any controversy. I believe it is a job like any other and I don’t think there is any harm in it. One should not look down on any job. It is not as if S** workers are killing or stealing. They are not a threat to national security!” Rani, however, is categorical in her denouncement of human trafficking. “That is definitely wrong as women are exploited and forced into it. This film is about a woman’s strength and the choices she makes. And finally, as an actor, I like to do different roles and this is one more.” Rani, who will turn 30 in March, is quick to clarify that “Laaga” is not another tale of a fallen woman. “That is one part of the film. At the core the film is the emotional bonding between sisters and familial relationships.” Talking about bonding, ask Rani about the experience of working with Konkona Sen Sharma, who plays her sister in the film, and she laughs saying: “It was wonderful working with Konkona. You know we Bongs don’t really need a reason to bond.” Rani’s association with the Yash Raj banner goes back to 2001’s “Mujhse Dosti Karoge”. Rani insists however that “Laaga…” is as much “a Pradeep Sarkar film as it is a Yash Raj film. There is a similar comfort level as I have done so many ads for Pradeep da. It was Pradeep da’s decision that I do the role and when I heard my role, I readily agreed.” Rani’s most memorable moment on the sets was on the very first day itself. “Konkona was playing with a wooden rattle which flew from her hand and hit my nose. It was really painful and I will never forget it as I sacrificed blood on the first day itself!” If clothes maketh the star then couturier Sabyasachi can claim credit for Rani’s scintillating look. “I work well with Sabya. He understands me as an actor and gives me the right look.” For “Laaga…” Rani has two looks — “the short kurti and Patiala salwars for the Benares part of the story and the signature red lipstick look for later. Sabya actually convinced me for the deep red lipstick and I am sure it will become very popular.” After “Laaga” Rani has a “small, special role in ‘Saawariya’ and then there is Kunal Kohli’s next film.” Open to Hollywood offers, Rani, who could not make it for Mira Nair’s “The Namesake” due to date problems, says: “As an actor I will do an exciting role in whichever country. But I will not work in a Hollywood production just for the sake of working in the West. The role has to interest me.” In her ten years (12 she is quick to correct me) in tinsel town, she has essayed every kind of role from the traditional to the trendy, from the mum of two to the footloose and fancy free singleton. So is there any role she is yet to do? “Maybe I should play a man!” she signs off with a throaty laugh

 Re: Rani Mukherjee...
Rani Mukherjee ‘I still learn a lot from Shah Rukh Khan' By Devapriyo Bhattacharjee MUMBAI S hah Rukh Khan tops her list of favorites. After a career spanning 12 years and 40 films, Khan is still the man who holds "a special place" in Rani Mukerji's professional life. "I was considered a newcomer in 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', but Shah Rukh never let me feel like one. The treatment he gave in spite of his superstar status then overwhelmed me," Mukherjee, who made her debut with ‘Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat' in 1996, said. She said Khan had always guided her in the right direction and she had gained a lot from him. "I respect his dedication and the extra effort he puts towards his work. I still learn a lot from him," Mukherjee told IANS on the sidelines of a function in Mumbai. The two have acted together in several films, including hits like ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,' ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham', ‘Chalte Chalte' and ‘VeerZaara'. They were also seen together in the critically acclaimed offbeat film ‘Paheli', which was based on a short story written by Vijayadan Detha. Queried about her rapport with Saif Ali Khan, with whom she was seen in ‘Hum Tum' and ‘Ta Ra Rum Pum', Mukherjee said, "In my recent film 'Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic' it was a good experience working with him. But while doing 'Hum Tum' we had some reservations. With time, we get along well and have mutual respect for each other." In ‘Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic', which is releasing June 27, Rani says she essays the role of an angel who has been sent by god to bring happiness in the life of a business tycoon and four orphan children. She had to do a lot of practice with action director Shyam Kaushal, especially for the flying scenes. "The speciality of the role is that I have to smile throughout the film unlike my other films where I had to cry as well. Even my fans told me that they have had enough of my crying. So this film is special for me and my fans; besides, 'Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic' is my only release this year." In real life, her angel is her two-year-old niece Myiesha. "She keeps me smiling. Whenever I am free and have some time, I play with her. She keeps me going." Famously reclusive when it comes to parties and social appearances, Mukherjee said emphatically, "I don't like parties. I am more of a family person. I prefer spending time with my family." She has been paired with almost all superstars except perhaps Akshay Kumar. "Many projects came to me where Akshay and I were paired together but somehow the roles didn't excite me." Her next project is a Yash Raj Film production with Shahid Kapur to be directed by debutant Anurag Singh. The yet to be titled film will go on the floors in June. We love Rani Mukerji, but...We love Rani Mukerji, a very talented actress in the Hindi film industry. But we wish she would pay as much attention to her outfits, as she does to her performances. And we're not just talking real life here. Even in reel life, Rani doesn't seem to pay much attention to her fashion and figure. Her dresses in her latest film, Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic are getting worse from her previous onscreen disasters. Here's why Rani needs a stylist and pronto! Text: Georgina Umdor

 Re: Rani Mukherjee...
We love Rani Mukerji, but...A Ghulam of bad fashion Way back in 1996, a certain Alisha made a ghulam of Aamir Khan. After debuting with Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat Mala in the same year, a pleasantly plump Rani was seen romancing a Aamir in Ghulam. Wonder how this all black horror made this actress a rani of Aamir's heart.
