 Re: Singer Mohit Chauhan...!!
`It's a big loss for music' Mohit Chauhan (Singer) : It's very sad and a great loss for music to lose an artiste like that. I knew him for more than 10 years now. Even before I formed Silk Route, I was friends with Susmit Sen, so he, Asheem and I would often jam at music parties in Delhi. He was a great guy and one of those true-blue musicians. Like a fakir, his soul was filled with music. He had a great sense of humour and had an infectious persona. My favourite memory of him is when I was once performing at an event and he asked me if he could play with me. He then jammed on the tabla to my songs. I still can't believe he's gone. Paresh Kamath (Kailasa): I'm completely shocked to hear it since I had last come to know that he was recovering from the coma. It's going to be a big loss to the music scene, and a personal loss to me. He was one of the few musicians who managed to get his band into such a great position, without going the Bollywood route.
I go back with him a long way I played the guitar on `Bandeh' and other tracks in Black Friday. He was a very sweet and chilled-out guy. I loved his music; his music had a soothing effect on me. I'll miss him. Surojit Dev (Themclones): It's like the end of an era for me. I have been listening to his music for around 15 years now, even before Them Clones was formed.
We have played together several times and I remember having brief chats with him. And he was the most down-toearth person, always jovial and happy.
I'm feeling so bad for his family, for the band, and for music, I don't even know how to react.

 Re: Singer Mohit Chauhan...!!
I adore AR Rehman: MohitPriyanka Arora, TNN, Jul 10, 2010 TOI catches up with Mohit Chauhan, whose smooth voice has cast a spell on Bollywood and fans alike What is your latest album - Fitoor all about?
Fitoor is my first solo album after Silk Route. The album chronicles the experiences of my life, my travels, my physical and mental experiences. The album comprises of ten compositions, all of which are expressions, a collage of my experiences in life so far.
What are you currently working on? Playback singing or solo albums?
I’m working on both. I have recorded songs for some upcoming movies including, like Once upon a time in Mumbai, Lafangey Parindey, a Deepti Naval film titled Do Paise Ki Dhoop and Chaar Aane ki Baarish. I have also started working on my next album. I actually started working on it as soon as I wrapped my latest solo album – Fitoor. But, it’s too early to talk about it.
Where do you get the inspiration for your songs?
Honestly speaking, there is no one particular genre of music I listen to. I don’t listen to too much music, and I’m not really into looking out for who is singing what. I just listen to whatever that pleases my ears, and lyrics which connects to my heart. Coming to inspiration, I seek inspiration from nature, life, and folk music. I’m basically a nature’s guy. I was born and brought up in Nahan, Himachal Pradesh, amidst the lap of nature, and that is what I turn to when seeking inspiration for my creations.
Your solo albums are infused with Sufi-rock style of music. While for the movies like Veer, there was a shift towards the romantic. Is there a specific reason as to why music directors give you only romantic numbers to sing?
It’s not really like that. Most of the songs that I’ve sung are romantic because romantic songs tend to flow into the storyline of Bollywood films. But I’ve also sung Khoon Chala for Rang De Basanti and Masakalli for Delhi-6 which are not the quintessential romantic songs.
You were recently felicitated with three awards this year for the songs Masakali from Delhi-6 and Yeh Dooriyan from Love Aaj Kal. Have you set any target for this year?
(Smiles) It always feels nice to be awarded. It’s nice to know that people appreciate your work. But I haven’t set any targets as such. If awards happen, then it’s beautiful. Ironically, my band Silk Route was awarded the best band, best debut and best video for Dooba Dooba in 1998, at the Channel [V] Music Awards. Sadly, no other award followed after that. It’s a sad thing that today Indian music channels have become a base for airing reality shows and sitcoms, rather than music.
You were a judge at Music Ka Maha Muqabla. Do you think such reality shows help in bringing forward new talent?
Yes. The people who come on these reality shows are from small villages who won’t get noticed otherwise. There is a lot of talent hidden in our country which is not acknowledged. So it’s a good thing if these talent shows help you to get noticed. But then, there is as much that these shows can do. At the end of the day, it depends on the person’s talent, originality, dedication to music, and commitment which will take the singer forward. It is up to the contestants to use the opportunity given to them in the best possible manner.
Who are your favourite artists?
I’m a great fan of Kishore Kumar, RD Burman, SD Burman, and the likes. Among contemporary artists, I adore AR Rehman.

 Re: Singer Mohit Chauhan...!!
Mohit to record his first Bengali songPriyanka Dasgupta, TNN, Aug 23, 2010, <>var facebookktitle='Mohit to record his first Bengali song';var facebooksyn='Jeet Gannguli has got Mohit Chauhan to record his first Bengali playback song for Sujit Mondal’s next, starring Dev and Srabanti.';> With Bengali listeners all ears when it comes to fresh voices, Mohit Chauhan’s Bengali playback debut for Sujit Mondal’s untitled film will be music to the ears.
On Saturday evening, the singer recorded a peppy number with Jeet Gannguli just two days ahead of Sujit’s visit to Switzerland where he is supposed to picturise the song on Dev.
Speaking about his Bengali playback debut, Mohit said, “I’ve recorded Bengali jingles before but this is the first time that I sang a Bengali film song. I have had Bengali friends and I am not new to the language. Though I’m not familiar with any contemporary Bengali filmi numbers, Bengali sounds very sweet to my ears. Recently, I bumped into Jeet and he asked me if I would be interested in recording a number for him. I immediately agreed. As for my pronunciation, only those who’ve heard my song will be able to say how perfect I’ve been. ”
Incidentally, Jeet had initially wanted to record this song himself had he not got a fresh voice that he was looking for. “My association with Mohit goes back to his Silk Route days. We used to jam together. Srikant da (Mohta) and I were toying with various ideas when Mohit’s name came to my mind. As luck would have it, I ran into Mohit. I took him to a studio and made him hear the composition though I never told him that I was thinking of him as a singer. Unlike the romantic songs that are always given to Mohit, this is a peppy number,” Jeet says, adding, “Even though I didn’t sing the number, Mohit recording it means a win-win situation for me. After all, composer Jeet comes before singer Jeet.”
The lyrics, which have been penned by Prosenjit, go like Mon hariye beghore. And expectedly, it wasn’t a cakewalk getting Mohit to record the word ‘hariye’ in Bangla. “We all worked hard on getting his pronunciation right. Initially, he kept on saying ‘hadiye’ instead of ‘hariye’. But then, we finally got it right. Mohit has given the song his soul,” Jeet adds.
Meanwhile, Sujit is excited with the whole process of recording. “Mohit’s kuch khaas hai has been a huge favourite of mine. I think, this song will become a revolution for Bengali playback. It’ll catch on with the youth instantly. Though Dev hasn’t heard Mohit’s version when he left for Europe to shoot Dui Prithibi, he did hear a scratch version with Jeet singing it. I’m sure he’ll love Mohit’s song when he hears it in Switzerland, where I’ll be shooting this number with him,” Sujit says.
While Mohit’s entry into playback is great news, is it any indication that the budget of Bengali films has increased too? “We haven’t discussed economics. I told him that there’s no money in Bengali cinema,” insists Jeet, before signing off, “Mohit recorded this number as a gesture for our friendship.”

 Re: Singer Mohit Chauhan...!!
Mohit's soulful performance at CWG villageIANS, Oct 9, 2010
A fusion of percussion comprising dholaks, tabla and drums and strains of the flute with guitar, the keyboard and harmonica filled the air as popular Indian singer Mohit Chauhan belted his hit numbers at the Commonwealth Games Village here, celebrating friendship and love between the participating nations. The singer sang his soulful renditions and yoodles here Friday evening in the 500-seating capacity open air amphitheatre, which was for once jam-packed with both volunteers and sportspersons alike.
"Everyone is working so hard and the Games and our city are looking so beautiful. And the guest hospitality is just amazing - this is our hand of friendship and love to all the participating nations here," Chauhan said before breaking into the number 'Yaro yahi dosti hai', an ode to friendship.
Close to 7,000 athletes from 71 teams are participating in the ongoing Commonwealth Games here.
Multiple jigs between the concert like break dances and free soft drinks being passed on and shared made for a unified effort in the musical night under the moonlit sky.
The spirit of Delhi came alive when the singer crooned his hit number 'Masakalli' from the film 'Delhi-6' and 'Tum se hi' from 'Jab We Met'. The mood immediately calmed down when Chauhan paid tribute to legendary Pakistani singer Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan by belting out his hit 'Tere bin nahin lagda' in his own signature style.
The echoes of 'once more, once more' filled the air with strong demands that didn't allow the show to wrap up on time. The singer crooned a number of his hits like 'Pehli baar mohabbat ki hai', 'Sabs peeche hum khade', 'Khoon chala' and 'Pee loon'.
Sakarai Labalaba from Fiji, who is training the Indian rugby team, was also present at the event with his mates and looked pleased after the gig.
"I understand Hindi only a bit but I really liked the singer. We were sitting right there chatting and listening to him. He is too soulful," Labalaba told IANS .
Atueta Balekana, the secretary general of Solomon Islands, said: "I loved the show. It was very good. And it was very relaxing especially for the volunteers as they have been constantly looking after us. We couldn't get the lyrics but enjoyed the music."
Indian athlete Sombir, however, didn't seem so content.
"Here the country is crying for medals and the volunteers are busy having fun," he rued.
The daily performances in the Village are a part of 'Delhi Celebrates' planned out by both the states and central governments to showcase the diversity of India's music during the Games.
It includes gigs from bands like Parikrama, Half Step Down, East India Company, Them Clones, Soulmate, Euphoria,

 Re: Singer Mohit Chauhan...!!
Rockstar’ Mohit Chauhan’s tribute to Nasir Husain Source: Daily Bhaskar.com Last Updated 10:01(09/05/12) He was the voice of ‘Jordan’ in Rockstar. His past experience as the lead singer of the band Silk Route showed in his rendition of A. R. Rahman’s tracks, and this is what gave Ranbir Kapoor the asli rock star image in the film. Now Indian pop and playback singer Mohit Chauhan, who rose to fame in Bollywood with Tum Se Hi in Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met and Masak Kali in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Delhi 6, is onto a bigger kick. He is putting together a tribute to Bollywood’s legendary filmmaker Nasir Husain in whose cinema the music was always exceptional. Right from Dil Dekhe Dekho and Teesri Manzil to Yaadon Ki Baraat and Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai, Nasir Saab introduced Bollywood to a genre of music that is the stuff encyclopedias are made of. Mohit is reluctant to talk about the album. But sources say the singer’s tribute will have handpicked numbers from several Nasir Husain films featuring Shammi Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor. Some tracks will be re-mixed. And Rishi and Randhir Kapoor are likely to help Mohit with the selection of the songs. The singer is super-enthused about this new album. “My last album Fitoor spawned popular tracks that are in demand at my concerts. I am hoping my new album too will have such an impact,” he said. The fact that Rockstar’s songs were the craze of the nation some time ago will help Mohit find a market beyond films. He was honored to be Ranbir’s voice in the film, especially since director Imtiaz Ali and music composer A R Rahman wanted only one uniform voice, and not three-four playback singers, to sing for the musician-hero. “I guess I was fortunate to be the chosen one,” Mohit admitted. His rapport with Ranbir shows in the latter’s performance to the music on screen. “We spent a lot of time together. And he often flew to Chennai for Rahman’s recordings. When you see Ranbir on screen you know he isn’t faking the words, music or voice. He feels them from inside.” Mohit also taught Ranbir how to strum riffs on the guitar. “He wasn’t only playing a musician. He was completely into the groove,” said Mohit.
