Re: The Musical Man AR Rahman...
British born producer, Young Archie has released his first solo track titled, ‘Bombay Angel.’ The track takes inspiration from an A.R. Rahman composition called ‘Kehna Hi Kya’, which was apart of the Bollywood film, ‘Bombay’ released back in 1995.
The video has been shot in Manchester and Arhcie is simply walking down the streets with a camera following him from behind. Some shots have also been filmed in a studio, but Archie has preferred to hide face.
We believe the track has something to do with the UK Riots that took place last year August. The video has been shot in Archie’s hometown, Manchester and aims to send out a positive message.
Archie explains, ‘In bad times somehow we forget the good, but this video reminds us that even in dark times we can always find a light. The video screams to the people to be proud of who you are and where you come from and that is simply what this video is all about.’
Were you affected by the UK Riots? Can you relate to Young Archie’s bolly-house track, ‘Bombay Angel’?

Re: The Musical Man AR Rahman...
Rahman and Prateik to celebrate HosannaMumbai Mirror | Feb 2, 2012 Makers of Ek Deewana Tha to throw a party for the controversial but popular song composed by the maestro
The censor board of film certification (CBFC) aside, the Hindi cinema industry has been faced with several other bodies that have raised objections to the content of various films over the years.
The latest addition to the list is surprisingly, an AR Rahman composed song, the southern version of which is already a hit. Certain groups have have raised an objection to Rahman's Hosanna number in Prateik - Amy Jackson starrer Ek Deewana Tha. While in most cases, such objections make the makers quite unhappy, this time around, director Gautham Menon, lead actor Prateik and composer Rahman have decided to throw a bash to celebrate the controversial song.
"Gautham and everyone are celebrating the success of Hossana. I am trying to juggle my schedule and be there," confirmed Rahman.
Mumbai Mirror has learnt that the party that has been planned for Friday and for which Rahman will have to fly down from Chennai, was the brainchild of lead actor Prateik.
Kicked about the party, Prateik told Mumbai Mirror, "Yes, we are planning to celebrate the success of the song in a big way. I have had a word with Rahman sir and Gautham sir. I did not want them to be apologetic for such a popular song."
Earlier Rahman had expressed his concern over the controversy and said, "The song was a sensation when it was released in the south a couple of years ago. It went on to win all possible music awards and was well received by all communities. However, I am concerned about the sentiments of all those whose sentiments have been hurt by it."
The General secretary of a community forum had counter attacked Rahman's statement by saying that people may have not noticed it earlier, but now the song should be stopped.

Re: The Musical Man AR Rahman...
Orchestrating Rahmania!RICHA MISHRA...with composer Matt Dunkley.
Matt Dunkley, head of German Film Orchestra Babelsberg. Ramesh Sharma
It's an hour-long wait on a windy Sunday evening, but that doesn't seem to matter as we are about to meet Matt Dunkley, the head of German Film Orchestra Babelsberg, here in India to play the music of the celebrated A.R. Rahman. Dunkley is certainly not new to Indian film music. Besides Hollywood hits such as Inception, Moulin Rouge, Batman: The Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End, and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, this conductor, orchestrator and composer is known in Bollywood for his work in Meenaxi, The Legend of Bhagat Singh and Mangal Pandey: The Rising. Presented by Lapp India, the five-city tour is part of a collaborative celebration — ‘Germany and India 2011-12: Infinite Opportunities' — commemorating 60 years of India-German diplomatic relations. On his maiden trip to India, Dunkley is all praise for the vibrancy and energy of Mumbai, and the grace of Delhi. On the audience response to the performances, he says, “It is fascinating to see the reaction of Indian audiences to our symphony orchestra concerts, playing music they love but in a very different setting.” Sharing an anecdote after the Mumbai show, he says, “The applauses were so gentle that it left us wondering, are we on the right track…We were later told that when Indian classical singers perform, the applauses are gentle because the audience does not want to disturb the singer.” Presenting Rahman's music to an audience that is passionate about him is no mean job, Dunkley agrees. What helped was the fact that the two connected as individuals passionate about music and not as two celebrities. “I've worked with AR since 2002 — when he was in London working on the musical Bombay Dreams, and needed to do some recording sessions for his score to The Legend of Bhagat Singh. I got a call from the orchestral booker and we recorded the orchestra at Abbey Road Studios (studio 2, in fact — where the Beatles recorded all their albums) and immediately I could tell that this was someone rather special,” he recounts. The mixture of Indian and western classical harmonies, combined with a fabulous gift for melody made the music stand out, Denkley adds. Music may have no boundaries, but does he see orchestra as a way to introduce classical music to the new generation? “For myself and the orchestra, this tour will be a journey in more than one way. So I'm looking forward to experiencing all that India has to offer. It will be fascinating, too, to see the reaction of an Indian audience exposed, some for the first time, to the glorious sound of a full symphony orchestra and classical choir performing some of the maestro's beautiful orchestral film music,” he says. However, planning a show of this nature for a new audience is not easy. “We chose songs that would best adapt to an orchestral arrangement — that is, the melody line is not too ornamented, and the harmonies are rich enough to support added counterpoint,” he says. “Much of the programme, however, is derived from instrumental themes that have been re-arranged and re-orchestrated, so this was not such an issue. Much of the repertoire is the same as the London Philharmonic concert, though new pieces were added and revised, as well as we re-edited most of the music.” Asked how audiences in the West would respond to such a synergy, he says, “We performed this programme at the Hollywood Bowl last summer, with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, so we both (Rahman and I) feel that we have now got the arrangements where we want them.” The orchestra consists of 65 players, with a choir of 28 singers and a solo soprano, and solo instruments such as flute, sitar and accordion, “as well as me out front conducting" — so that means nearly 100 musicians on stage!

A.R. Rahman unperturbed with Hosanna controversy! Source: Esha Razdan Last Updated: 04/02/12 A.R. Rahman along with the makers of Ekk Deewana Tha is unaffected with the controversy hovering the song Hosanna which has become an anthem among the youth. Confident about their creation as censor board has passed no objectionable comments, the spokesperson of Fox International on behalf of Rahman clarifies, “We have followed the law of land. The fact that censor has no doubts about giving clean chit to the song says it all. We are unperturbed with such sabotage by the people who have their vested interests.” He goes on to add, “Moreover, we have two respected talents Rahman and Javed Akhtar associated with the song who will never churn out something which will hurt the sentiments of people. Rahman in fact, recently as cleared the air by revealing how in depth had in gone with the research of the word Hosanna. So, such objections from certain segment of society are baseless.” The female lead Amy Jackson adds, “I’m Christian by religion and got acquainted with the word in my childhood. It is a pious word and Rahman sir portrayed in a beautiful manner and none of people from my religion have any issues with the song especially when they know the word in its truest sense.” Point taken Ms. Jackson, hope after listening to your words, the critics of the song are enlightened and change their mind.

Rahman to debut on big screen | Prashant Singh |
AR Rahman may have kept himself away from the camera for years, but the maestro will soon be seen in a film for the first time. The multiple-Oscar winning composer will make his big screen debut in the music video of his track, Mohabbatein from Ekk Deewana Tha (EDT). EDT director and Rahman's friend, Gautham Menon has shot the video for him. “AR has been extremely excited about the entire album. In fact, it was his idea to shoot the song,“ says Vijay Singh of Fox Star Studios, producer of EDT. Previously, Rahman made a cameo in Akon's music video of the popular hit, Beautiful. However, this time, he will be seen singing the song and playing the piano. Mohabbatein is Rahman's favourite song from the film's soundtrack. “It's a very romantic song.
And since the film is all about romance and love, Rahman sir's involvement with the song has made it (the song) special for all of us,“ says a source from the production unit. Makers plan to unveil the video at the success party of the song, Hosanna.
Starring Prateik and Amy Jackson, EDT is a remake of Menon's Tamil film, Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa. Rahman composed score for the Tamil version too. He and other cast members released the film's soundtrack at Taj Mahal in Agra.

Re: The Musical Man AR Rahman...
Ekk Deewana ThaMirror | Feb 9, 2012, After Akon, Pitbull, Lady Gaga, Tom Cruise and Oprah Winfrey visited the country for their professional commitments, Mumbai Mirror has learnt that pop artist Jennifer Lopez will be arriving here next month. She will perform at the opening ceremony of the sporting league owned by Raj Kundra and Sanjay Dutt, scheduled in the city on March 11 at Andheri Sports Complex.
A source from the league told Mumbai Mirror, "Ever since the launch of the league, Raj wanted to have a grand opening ceremony. Having JLo for a dance performance on the opening night was completely his idea. So the management got in touch with the artist's manager and finalised everything."
Revealing her arrival date, the source added, "She will be here on March 6 and stay at a suburban five-star. Due to her rehearsals, they will ensure her hotel is not too far away from the venue. She will perform on some of her biggest hits, including her latest album Love. She will fly out of the country the next day."
When contacted, Kundra, who is currently in Germany, confirmed the story and said, "There are many surprises in store."The first thought on listening to Ekk Deewana Tha is of how much Bollywood audience misses out on A R Rahman's dazzling Tamil works, which fortunately or not, is more than half of his compositions. Thanks to director Gautham Menon's decision to remake Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya, Rahman's return to romance in Bollywood after four years (Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na was in 2008) is expectedly remarkable.
What makes this soundtrack special is how inconspicuously it holds five gems in a row that could have been scattered across five Bollywood soundtracks as stand-out songs and yet would have single-handedly saved the day. Dost Hai (Girl I Loved You) surreptitiously installs a manic groove in your head with its deep bass, fresh melody and beats-heavy arrangement. Amidst the sounds of guns cocking, shooting and a synth keeping a racy rhythm, Naresh Iyer sings with part-rap and hip hop sections spat out by Jaspreet Jasz and Arya.
Phoolon Jaisi Ladki reasserts Rahman's comfort with minimalism - a one-note bell in the backdrop and simple beats that emphasise Clinton Cerejo's endearing lines. Liberal use of autotune in the second verse is for such delicious effect that you may forgive all the misuse it gets subjected to in the 'coolest' of today's songs. Mellow guitars and mellower synthesisers exalt romance to operatic heights in the Madhushree-Rahman duet Sharminda Hoon. What also helps are the sweeping background ambience and Akhtar's sparkling lyrics - Tumko maine chaaha bhi hai...tumhi ko maine gham bhi diye...Sharminda hoon.
Aromale (which means Beloved in Malayalam) is a grungy acoustic piece par excellence in VV, but in Hindi, Akhtar's dense lyrics burden the track's mind-bending quotient until it flattens out like an unplugged jam. Again, unlike VV's Hosanna that was spot-on in its mushy space, this version lacks spontaneity. Let's not even get to how sorely we miss Blaaze's ace rapping from the original.
Javed Ali intimately puts out a wondering, wandering Zohra Jabeen; the title track of VV. Rahman takes to the mic, musing what love is all about in the hard-to-like, Waltz rhythm-driven Kya Hai Mohabbat. An ode to 70's rock era, Jessie's driving me crazy is a bread-and-butter classic rock number with a simple distortion riff and standard drumming. Three instrumentals - Broken Promises, Moments in Kerala and Jessie's Land - are stuff that Rahman could effortlessly stack up over a few hours of musical introspection. The hum and feel of Jessie's Land evokes fond memories of Latika's Theme from Slumdog Millionaire.
While it is irresistible to compare this 'remade' album with the original and point out some loss in magic, Rahman doesn't once let his soaring music dip. Once again, he shows how romance revels in his music console in all its glory.

We will miss you, Whitney: A.R. RahmanTNN | Feb 12, 2012
With the passing away of singer Whitney Houston, a few from the Indian music industry chose to write about her on their social micro-blogging site.
While music director and singer Shankar Mahadevan extended his condolence with a simple 'Whitney Houston R.I.P', music director Vishal Dadlani expressed: 'RIP Whitney Houston. What a singer, what an artist, what a life! Goodbye, and may you find happiness.' (sic)
The Maestro of Madras, A.R. Rahman, too, had something to say about Houston. "Another shining star of the music world gone too soon...! We will miss you, Whitney... Respect and prayers for you! " (sic)
Whitney Houston will be missed, and though she is no more, she'll continue to live in our hearts and through her songs. The songstress' 'I Will Always Love You' from 'Bodyguard' was by far everybody's favourite. She had many winners under her belt and was the recipient of an impressive count of six Grammy trophies!

AR Rahman composes two songs for Mani Ratnam Source:http://www.bollywoodlife.com Januaruary 16th, 2012 By India Syndicate
Mani Ratnam recently announced his big budget bilingual project, Kadal. The film is all set to hit the floors early next month and the maestro director has already completed two songs Mani Ratnam is working with Oscar and Grammy Award-winning AR Rahman and lyricist Vairamuthu for the music of Kadal. While the film goes on floor only in March, two songs are already complete. “Both the songs were picked from the lyricist’s popular collection Vairamuthu Kavidhaigal. After the poet made some changes to it to suit the cinematic demands, they were composed by Rahman and recorded in no time. Usually Rahman takes time to compose songs. But this time, he did it on a fast track, since he was aware that Mani Ratnam would start the shooting anytime. The ace director is happy with both the songs,” said a source close to the director. Kadal, which will have yesteryears hero Karthik’s son Gautham and Samantha of Bana Kathadi fame as the protagonist, will be marked as Aravind Swamy’s comeback vehicle. Arjun, Pasupathy, Thambi Ramaiah and Lakshmi Manchu will be playing pivotal roles in the film. This Madras Talkies venture will have its first schedule in Andaman.
